Craig M. Small, CFA
Vice President

Craig has loved financial services for as long as he can remember.  While helping clients solve both complex and simple needs, he loves building long lasting relationships that go beyond business.  His passion for helping clients as well as his love of the industry shines through every conversation.

For individual clients, Craig’s focus is financial planning first.  He sets out a roadmap for families who are close to retirement or still have 30 years to go.  With a plan in place, it allows other decisions to be made with clarity on how they impact both the short term and long term.  For corporate clients, he puts a focus on the shared fiduciary duty to ensure complex benefit programs are attractive for current employees and lucrative for a growing business looking to expand their talent pool.

Craig’s responsibilities beyond individual relationships at Symphony include running day to day operations as well as serving as the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. He has extensive experience in analyzing and managing portfolios. Craig maintains close relationships with Symphony’s clients as well as its investment managers.

While Craig was still attending Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio, he completed mentorship and internship programs with American Express and, at the time, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Craig holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration specializing in Finance, Risk Management, and Insurance from The Ohio State University. He also holds his FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 66 through LPL Financial as well as his Life, Health, and Annuities License. Prior to starting with Symphony Financial in June of 2008, Craig was an independent agent with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.  Craig is extremely proud that Symphony Financial Services, Inc. has been his only work home since graduating in 2009.  In 2020, Craig became the first equity partner in Symphony Financial Services, Inc. which shows his continued dedication that SFS will be the only firm in which he spends his entire career.

Craig earned his CFA Charter in 2013. He passed the Level I, II, and III exams in the CFA program in succession. He is a member of the CFA Institute.

Craig resides in Wadsworth with his wife, Jackie, their children, Gabriella and Grayson, and their dogs, Murphy and Chip.  Craig is an avid, and hopefully improving, golfer in his free time.  He is an Ohio State Football season ticket holder and proudly states it’s the only school to which he applied.  Craig is a diehard Cleveland sports fan. He loves to enjoy all of his favorite activities with his family and friends.
